One more birthday is coming and I am happy to try some of my new ideas of cake decorating. This can be a Jungle Birthday Cake for a boyas well as for a girl. As always I make all my decorations with marshmallow fondant, which I find very easy to make and very good to work with.

Also I tried to make chocolate marshmallow fondant to get real and tasty brown colour. I melted some chocolate added a bit of butter and marshmallows. It all melted together and turned into a beautiful and so tasty fondant. But to get fondant out of it I had to add some powdered sugar. This kind of fondant, made with chocolate, is so easy to use because it doesn’t stick to your fingers.

For the Jungle Birthday Cake I am going to bake two cakes, one bigger and one smaller to make a two tier cake.  I need it to be a two tier cake to make a beautiful waterfall with some fish and a crocodile in it. Also there will be some little rocks around it and green grass.

On the very top I am thinking to put three palms and two cheeky monkeys. I also made an elephant, a giraffe with little blue bow and so cute hair, I just love it! and a lion to decorate this birthday cake.

To cover the bottom lines of the cake I made lots of marshmallow green leaves to make the whole picture more colourful and bright. I’m absolutely in love with all these fondant jungle animals, they turned out so cute.

Hi. Thank you. I'm happy you liked the ideas and the decorations. I've put a lot of time and effort into them. I made them from marshmallow fondant. After a day or so they became quite hard, but not completely hard. Anyway.. they look good and taste really sweet. Who doesn't like marshmallows?!

Hi Kelley. If you made this kind of decorations before it may take you a couple of days to make those. It includes baking and decorating time. Also you need to prepare fondant of each colour and in small amounts.. that takes some time. That is why it is a very time consuming process. But very enjoyable and lots of fun. Good luck! BTW I could publish your cake here too and a few words of yours about the process and your experience about this cake, which will be so valuable for many others looking for ideas. Happy caking!!

Re Kelley: after all your fondant deocrations are done and dry you can keep them in an airtihght container for a couple of months. So that is totaly fine if you make them now and keep till your party comes..

Hi Marina, Your jungle themed cake is unbelievable and so perfect! I would love to make a cake like this for my son's 1st birthday. The only thing I'm not sure on is how do I make the different colours for all of the figurines. I have been looking around for jungle themed cakes but none even come close to yours!!

Hi Michelle, thank you for your kind words. I'm very pleased. About the colours. You can buy food colouring of almost any colour in supermarkerts, specialized shops or even online. Then you just colour the fondant as you make it. Have a look at my post "How to make marshmallow fondant". Good luck with the cake. And you are welcome to publish the story about the jungle cake you will make on this blog.

Hi, do you use some sort of a texta or pen to get the really fine detail such as the giraffe's eyebrows and the fish fins? What do you use that is edible? Thanks, Kim
